The small town of Kaw City,
population 300 more or less, was blessed years ago with a sizable
multipurpose building. The City of Kaw City holds title
to the facility but turns the day-to-day management over to the Chamber of
Commerce. The Chamber in turn arranges with the Senior Citizens, Square
Dancers, and anyone needing a multipurpose building, on a recurring, or one
time basis, and is solely responsible for the scheduling, and other
accommodations. Details on renting the Community Center can be found HERE.
The Kaw City Chamber of
Commerce sponsors numerous events throughout the year. The events and
activities of the Chamber serve several purposes:
1.) Many of these events are
very popular with residents of north central Oklahoma and south central
Kansas. Activities such as the annual Eagle Watch in January, the Miss Kaw
Lake Pageant in June, and others bring hundreds of visitors to the town and
keeps cash registers ringing in the local business establishments.
2.) Some events are
successful fund raisers to help maintain the Community Center.
3.) These events create a
positive 'community spirit & cohesiveness'
which seems to be a critical factor in communities that are nice places to
live.
4.) The Chamber also
performs a uniquely valuable service to the community in the publication and
distribution of Kaw City's only print media; the monthly Chamber Newsletter.
Although printing costs are frequently shared by a local entity, the cost of
time and effort in the creation and distribution of this Newsletter is born
by Chamber volunteers.

A complete list of Chamber
activities is posted on the Calendar of Events
page.
The Chamber is a 'strictly
volunteer' effort. Enjoying the community spirit is a product of membership
in the Chamber. Along with church, school, or other civic activities
participation in Chamber projects provides citizens with the feeling that
they are helping make Kaw City a great place to live. True, some volunteers
are not members. But membership adds to the pride felt while participating
in these events. Membership is only $25 per year or $30 for the household.
Contact Rosie Kirk, or anyone on the Contact
page for membership details.
The Chamber monthly
meeting is always on the third Thursday of each month. The meeting takes
place, usually at 7 PM, in the Community Center.
